Kostursko Oro

History

A womens' dance from Kostur (Kastoria) in North-West (Greek) Macedonia.
I learned this dance from Yves Moreau in 2011.

Rhythm

The music is in 7/8 danced as slow-slower (3-4).

Steps

Start in a line in a W hold, facing right of centre.

Step to the side with the right, then step across in front with the left.
Step to the side with the right, then close with the left.
Step back with the right, then touch-close with the left.
Step to the side with the left, then cross behind with the right.
Step to the side with the left, then bring the right next to the left before swinging it round (keeping it close to the ground) and stepping to the side.
Step across in front with the left, then touch the right toes beside the left.

There's an instrumental introduction, the dance starts with the singing.

Music

Kostursko Oro from a workshop CD produced by Yves Moreau.
