Siriul

History

A dance from Muntenia in Romania. I learnt it from David Roberts in July 2007.

Rhythm

The dance is in an even 3/4 rhythm, most of the steps are slow but there are a couple of quick steps at the start of the sequence.

Steps

Start in a circle with arms in a W hold, facing right.

Step forward with the right (quick), bring the left foot forward a little (quick), then step forward with the right, and the left. Do this part twice.

Turning to face centre step to the side with the right, then touch close with the left.

Step to the side with the left, then cross in front with the right while turning to face slightly left of centre. The step should take you towards the centre. Touch close with the left.

Step to the side with the left. This will take you back to the line of dance having moved to the left.

Cross in front with the right, then replace the left while turning to face centre, then step to the side with the right. Repeat this sequence to the right starting with the left crossing in front.

There is a short introduction, the dance starts with the high melody.

Music

Siriul from Balkan Spirit 8 produced by David Roberts.
