White Bird

History

A modern dance choreographed by June Watts.

Rhythm

The music is in a fast 3/4 rhythm which is split into 2-1, giving a sort of 'heartbeat' pulse.

Steps

Start in a line, arms in a V hold, facing centre.

Point forward with the left foot (3 beats).

Point backwards with the left foot (3 beats).

Step to the side with the left (1 beat), and point to the side with the right (2 beats).
Repeat with opposite feet, then pause for 1 beat.

During the 'pointing' steps it can be nice to look at the pointing foot, forward, then back, then right, then left.

Step across in front with the left (2 beats), then step to the side with the right (1 beat).
Repeat.

Step across in front with the left (2 beats), then close with the right and go up onto your toes (1 beat), then lower your heels (2 beats), and pause for 1 beat.

There is a long introduction, the dance starts with the second note on the flute.

Music

Vasija de Barro from La Plume De L'Oeuf by Los Incas.
