Dalgata

History

A Bulgarian dance. I learnt it from David Roberts in July 2007.

Rhythm

The dance is in a fast 4/4 rhythm.

Steps

Start in a line with arms in a W hold, facing right.

Part 1

Step forward with the right, then hop on the right. Do the same with the left.
Turning to face centre step to the side with the right, cross behind with the left, step to the side with the right, lift the left in front.
Step to the side with the left, cross behind with the right, jump to the left landing on both feet, lift the right in front.

Do the first part five times times, then do just the first two step-hops.

Part 2

Step to the side with the right, cross behind with the left, step to the side with the right, lift the left in front. Repeat to the left.
There are vigorous hand 'bounces' during this part!

Do the second part four times.

Part 3

Step to the side with the right, cross behind with the left, step to the side with the right, cross in front with the left. Step to the side with the right, cross behind with the left, step to the side with the right, close the left with a stamp. Repeat this to the left.

Do the third part twice.

Part 4

Step forward (towards the centre) with the right, then hop on the right. Do the same with the left.
Step forward with the right, then replace the left. Step back with the right, then replace the left. Step forward with the right, then replace the left.
Hop on the right, then step back on the right. Do the same with the left.
Close the right with a stamp, then there's a one-beat rest.

Do the fourth part twice.

There is a short introduction, the dance starts with the melody.
