Žensko Za Raka

History

A dance from Western Macedonia.
I learned this dance from Yves Moreau in 2011.

Rhythm

The music is in a straight 4/4 rhythm.

Steps

Start in a line in a W hold, facing right.

Step forward with the right, then lift the left. Step forward with the left, then lift the right.
Take three steps forward, starting with the right. On the last step turn to face centre, then lift the left.
Step forward with the left, then lift the right behind the left.
Step to the side with the right, then cross in front with the left.
Step to the side with the right, then lift the left.
Step forward with the left, then lift the right behind the left.
Step back with the right, then lift the left.
Step to the side with the left, cross in front with the right, step to the side with the left, cross behind with the right.
Step to the side with the left, then lift the right slightly across in front.

The dance sequence has 12 measures (24 beats) while the music is in 8 measures, so the dance goes in and out of sync with the music.

Start at the beginning of any musical phrase.
